The Monticello River Find – Lost Treasure Rediscovered

A discovery of sealed wax so great, we can’t even list ALL of the wax packs, boxes, and potential iconic cards hidden from human eyes for decades! Here is just a taste of the cardboard gold found in The Monticello River Find.

1972 Topps Basketball sealed wax box. Inside this box are 24 wax packs, each holding 10 cards. Card # 195 is one you’d love to pull; this is Julius Erving’s rookie card. DR. J! ABA champ, NBA champ, MVP in both leagues, and is one of smoothest dunkers in the history of the game. The ‘72 set is filled with other star players like Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Oscar Robinson, Pete Maravich, and more. The PSA pop report lists just ONE PSA 10 of the Dr. J rookie card. There are 160 Eriving rookies graded PSA 9 and the last copy sold for $22,101 in August of 2022. Could you resist buying into a break with 240 tries at a pack-fresh Dr. J rookie?

1980 Topps Baseball sealed wax box. With 36 packs and 15 cards per pack, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to hunt down a Rickey Henderson rookie card if you choose to crack this box. Henderson may not be as big of a name as Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, or Hank Aaron, but his numbers stack up. Ricky is the all-time leader in stolen bases, all-time leader in runs scored, is a member of the 3,000 hit club, won an MVP award as well as a Gold Glove, and was on two World Series championship teams. Only 25 PSA 10 copies exist of card #482 and the last two Rickey rookies in that condition sold in 2022 for $120,000 and $111,000, respectively.

1993 Upper Deck SP Baseball sealed box. This more modern product still has the wrapper from Upper Deck present, sealing the 24 packs of 12 cards. Why does a product from 1993 make the “Most Impressive Unopened Finds” list? The hit of the product is a Derek Jeter rookie card. A 14-time All-Star with five World Series titles, Derek Jeter has only five players in the history of baseball above him on the career hits list. The FOIL rookie card #297 is tough to get in gem mint condition; only 21 PSA 10 copies exist. The last PSA 10 was sold in November 2021 for $360,613.20.

In the same find were sealed wax boxes of 1976 Topps Football where you may find a Walter Payton rookie, 1981 Topps Football with Joe Montana as a rookie, and 1984 Topps Football where both Dan Marino and John Elway rookie cards reside. All three boxes have 36 packs each, and all are sealed, hidden from the light of day for years. We couldn’t narrow down just one to highlight from The Monticello River Find!

If you’re into hockey, the find includes sealed wax boxes of 1984 Topps Hockey where you would see Steve Yzerman rookies, and 1985 Topps Hockey headlined by Mario Lemieux’s rookie card.As players, Yzerman and Lemieux combined for five Stanley Cup titles and 1,382 goals scored.

You can find these boxes and more from the find currently at auction there Heritage where there are 70 lots listed.
