Did you know that the current GOAT of baseball, Mike Trout, was into baseball cards? Trouty grew up loving both Ken Griffey Jr. and Derek Jeter. When he was a kid around 2000, the three-time MVP collected baseball cards. Now with his name etched in stone alongside the players he idolized, Trout is the guy we love to collect when we get into card breaks. Mike Trout teamed with Yahoo Sports to open up baseball packs and do exactly what we do when we rip into vintage or nostalgic packs: relive the great memories from our youth.
2001 Upper Deck Baseball and 2018 Topps Archives were the packs chosen. The UD pack could hold rookies of Ichiro and Albert Pujols, while the Topps may have an Ohtani rookie. Which pack will Trout choose to rip, and could he pull a monster card? Let’s watch!
We love that Trout started just taking the cards and not waiting for the trade offer. No big rookies, but Hall-of-Famers in the packs for sure, with Rickey Henderson, Tony Gywnn, Tom Glavine, and a future HOF’er in Ichiro. Great story about Ichiro, too – he made every throw seem effortless, but he had a CANNON of an arm.
Do you think this rip got Mike Trout back into collecting cards? Who knows, maybe he’ll be hiding in the chat comments during your next card break! We actually witnessed Evan Longoria watching a break on IG recently, so you never know!
